Sharon of KRON Channel 4 speaks with licensed psychotherapist and cofounder, Dr Nader Shabahangi about why he writes about aging and why he co-founded AgeSong and it’s unique humanistically-oriented assisted living communities.
Dr Nader Shabahangi speaks about why he embraces aging. He celebrates what the elders in his life gave to him. Nader thought about how influential and special his grandparents were to him and by writing his books on aging and founding AgeSong he wanted to share what it is like to be in the company of older people.
In working with the aging population Nader wants to reverse the isolation of the aging population from mainstream culture. There is something wonderful and valuable about aging and becoming older. This is an opportune time, as baby boomers grow into their older years, to change the culture. Now instead of an anti-aging philosophy, aging means maturing, changing, and becoming wiser. That is the whole philosophy of AgeSong to value aging and the process, to allow us to look forward to our elder years. Not just a cultural shift it is shift in the way to look at yourself as you go through the process. Every day you are becoming better.
