Choosing memory care in Portland
Each of the 14 homes above appears for one reason: its license record carries Oregon's memory care endorsement in the ODHS provider file. No home can pay for a place on this page, and AgeSong does not certify care on its own authority. The state's record is the evidence, and the ODHS license search will show you the same thing we see.
What separates a small licensed home from the memory care wing of a large community is scale. These homes keep the shape of a house: one kitchen, a shared table, and a small consistent group of caregivers who learn one person's rhythms instead of a floor's worth. For many people with dementia that steadiness matters more than amenities; for others, a larger community with round-the-clock nursing on site is the better fit. If a larger community is within reach, tour both kinds during your search and watch which environment your parent settles in.
Go twice, once in late afternoon when dementia symptoms tend to run hardest. Ask who is awake in the house overnight, how long the caregivers have been there, and what would lead the home to ask a resident to leave. Bring the visit checklist, read our guide to choosing a care home for dementia before the first tour, and when you want to compare beyond Portland, the Oregon memory care page lists every endorsed small home in our directory.
Talk through your shortlist with an advisor
A Place For Mom connects families with local senior living advisors. The guidance is free for families; advisors are paid by the communities that participate in their network. An advisor can help you build a shortlist and schedule tours. The judging stays with you: verify any home you are considering against the state license database, whoever recommended it.

How these homes are selected
AgeSong reads Oregon's public licensing data and includes a home here only when its license record carries explicit memory care evidence. Homes without that evidence are not labeled either way: a license record that says nothing about memory care is an unknown, not a no.
